What to Wear to Your Engagement Session

Your engagement photos aren’t just pictures, they’re the beginning of your story in print. What you wear sets the tone, shapes the mood, and honestly… affects how confident and comfortable you feel in front of the camera. This guide walks you through choosing outfits that photograph beautifully, feel like you, and match the vibe of your session location.

1. Avoid Large Logos & Distracting Prints

Logos, graphics, neon colors, and super-busy prints tend to pull attention away from your connection. Solid colors or subtle patterns usually photograph best and keep the focus on your faces, movement, and emotions.

2. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Think cohesive instead of identical.
Choose colors that compliment each other (e.g., beige + denim, rust + cream, navy + soft blue). You don’t need to match, just live in the same color palette.

3. Be Mindful of Hats & Face-Covering Accessories

Hats can be cute, but they also cast shadows, hide eyes, and limit angles. If a hat is part of your personality, bring it as an optional look, but plan for at least one hat-free outfit so your expressions are fully visible.

4. Neutrals Are Your Friend (Most of the Time)

Soft neutrals like cream, olive, tan, black, denim, and muted rusts photograph beautifully and feel timeless.
But also consider:

  • The location (beach = light tones, forest = earthy tones, city = elevated neutrals or monochrome)

  • The season (pastels for spring, deeper hues for fall)

The goal is for your outfits to feel like they belong in the setting.

5. Consider Movement & Comfort

Think about how you want to move in your photos.

  • Dresses: timeless, elegant, and add beautiful flow + texture

  • Pants/jeans: more mobility for lifts, spins, piggybacks, etc.

If you want a mix of classy and playful, bring one of each.

6. Bring Multiple Outfits

Two outfits = two different vibes without changing locations.
I usually recommend:

  • One dressy (flowy dress / dress shirt with slacks)

  • One casual (sweater with jeans / tee + denim)

7. Final Tip: Wear What You Feel Best In

If you feel confident, comfortable, and like yourself, it will absolutely show in your photos. When in doubt, text me pictures — I genuinely love helping my couples choose!
