My Favorite Wedding Day Moments to Capture (And Why They Mean So Much to Me)

Every wedding day has a rhythm, a natural rise and fall of energy, emotion, anticipation, and celebration. And throughout that rhythm, there are certain moments that always stand out to me. The ones I look forward to, the ones I get butterflies about, the ones that remind me why I do this.

Here are some of my absolute favorite moments to capture at weddings (and why I love them so much).

1. Flatlays: The Creative Jumpstart of the Day

I love beginning a wedding with flatlays. There’s something magical about walking into a quiet room before all the excitement begins and laying out the details that make your day yours.

It’s my warm-up, like stretching before a game.
No pressure. No crowd.
Just me, your details, and a blank creative canvas.

I get to experiment with angles, textures, shadows, and florals. I can take my time and get playful. And honestly? Some of the coolest photos of the entire day come from these early moments. They set the tone. They help me tap into my creativity. And they’re such a beautiful way to honor the details you worked so hard to choose.

2. The Unconventional, In-Between Moments

I’ll always love the obvious big moments, the kiss, the first look, the grand entrances, but the unexpected, unconventional moments? Those are my heart.

Like:

  • A single tear on your mom’s cheek during the vows

  • A ring being twisted nervously in someone’s hand

  • Siblings squeezing each other’s shoulders during the ceremony

  • A quick hand squeeze before walking back up the aisle

These are the details you didn’t plan but will treasure forever. They’re the kind of moments you can’t reenact. And they give so much depth to your gallery because they tell the true story of your day.

3. Bridal Party Photos With ENERGY

Give me a hyped bridal party any day.

I love bridesmaid and groomsmen photos when:

  • The group is excited

  • They bring ideas

  • They trust me when I say “Okay, hear me out…”

  • They’re willing to be goofy, classy, dramatic, whatever the moment calls for

The more personality, the better. These sessions become a mix of laughter, inside jokes, and big group energy. And the photos always show it.

4. First Dances: Pure, Undeniable Emotion

First dances always get me.

There is something sacred and intimate about watching two people slow down in the middle of a whirlwind day. Whether it’s a couple wrapped up in each other during their first dance or a father/daughter or mother/son moment that has everyone tearing up. These moments feel so honest.

I love watching the expressions on the faces of the people watching, too. The family members who’ve been loving and praying for you long before this day existed. It’s a window into the heart of the whole celebration.

5. Couples Portraits: The Images You’ll Frame Forever

No surprise here, couples portraits are the highlight.

This is where we get to breathe for a second. This is where the two of you get to be alone (or as alone as possible with me third-wheeling it up). It’s when everything sinks in:

We’re really married.

I love creating images here that feel timeless, emotional, editorial, and true to you. I always think about the fact that these are the photos you’ll print, frame, hang in your home, and show your future kids. There’s so much weight and beauty in that.

6. Reception Photos: Pure Joy, Pure Chaos, Pure FUN

The reception is like the victory lap, the moment when everyone lets loose and celebrates.

I love:

  • Being in the middle of the dance floor

  • Moving with the crowd

  • Dancing right alongside you

  • Capturing the wild, hilarious, and joy-filled moments

It’s carefree. It’s messy. It’s energetic. And honestly? It’s the most fun part of the day.

I get to be fully immersed in your people, the ones who love you enough to dance until their feet hurt. The photos from this part of the night are always some of the most joyous and candid.

The Magic of a Wedding Day

The beauty of a wedding is that no two days ever feel the same. Each couple has their own energy, their own story, their own inside jokes, their own people. And getting to move through the day capturing every layer. From quiet details to emotional moments to full-on dance floor chaos, is truly the best job in the world.

These moments matter.
These moments tell your story.
And I’m so honored every time I get to witness them.
